Headed to Crisfield Md for their Labor Day Crab Festival. We are extremely excited to see (what I call) the "Watermen Rodeo"!! YeeHaw.........actual name is Chesapeake Cowboy Boat Docking Competition (too formal, don't you think?)

Our boats are across; 1st is tour boat Steven Thomas, then Inspeyered II, Act III, Sandrobber, Barbara Ann (newbies), Sum Escape and Corkscrew |
It's an 80 mile trip from Cambridge, so on the way there we decided to anchor in Little Choptank River, then continue the next day. On our return trip to Cambridge we chose to do it all in one day. In Crisfield we stayed @ Somers Cove Marina. Tom n Julie on Sum Escape, Al n Jane on Inspeyered II, joined us here at Somers Cove Marina along with Act III and Sandrobber.

In the Crab Chair @ museum on Tangier Island |
We did a lot while here and loved every minute of it!
We took a ferry ride 12 miles to Tangier Island, pop. 480. This tee tiny island is only 4' above sea level, so standing water in yards is an issue, very marshy and parts of the island are disappearing at a rate of 15" per year. Their form of transportation around the little town is by golf carts. They have a school (grades 1 thru 12) and a teacher for each grade. This year there will be 9 graduating seniors.
We visited their tiny museum and of course, we had to have some ice cream! There are several gift shops on the island for the tourists that are brought there daily by ferry........
Tom, the Marina manager, took the guys (Sonny, Rob, Tom and Jeff) crabbing. They were so excited about that. They caught a bushel and brought them back for a crab boil that night. He taught us how to "hack" into those creatures of the sea. Some people use hammers, he used a small knife.
