8/10/16 and 8/11/16

We left Spring Cove Marina and traveled a mile, that's right, a whole mile to Solomons Island Yacht Club. We wanted to see this area, and staying at SIYC cost lots less than Spring Cove..................so there it is; we moved!!!  It's a very small club here but they do have dinners sometime. We ate one night and it was good, plus the cost was great. $10 for our dinner and $2.50 for a glass of wine. Cheap enough....... plus we met several people that were very nice. The second night we ate @ The Dry Dock Restaurant, and it was awesome...........we are eating out a lot because it is so stinking hot, especially when you turn on a burner or the oven. Our air conditioners are working hard but if you're cooking, they can't hardly keep up. We rode our bikes a lot cause it is such a great place for that. I absolutely love The Chesapeake Bay area and these quaint towns on the water. Told Sonny I could live here............................Went to a museum there that was great. Sonny loves museums, he wants to know everything about everything.

 We left Corinthian Yacht Club a couple days earlier than planned. We realized on our trip there that the Inverter batteries were beginning to fail. So we got in touch with Spring Cove Marina at Solomons (35 miles up the Chesapeake) and made plans for them to order them and put in while there a couple of days. There are two of them weighing 160 lbs each; so we needed young men with strong backs! Amazingly while there the weather cooled off, so it was fairly nice for a change. Didn't last long though.................... This marina area is very nice, great place to walk Marena, picnic area, pool, AND doggie ice cream!!
Marena is happy................I bought extra!

Okay, first of all let me say that this trip has been awesome. I've never been here so seeing all these wonderful places has been;  well.................wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!)
Act III (Jeff n Susan) left here on the 5th, and Sandrobber (Rob n Sandy) left here on the 6th. So while we were all here, we did a lot of our touring together.
We visited: Lincoln Memorial, Korean War Memorial, World War II Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Navy Memorial, Washington Monument, Library of Congress, The Capital, Spy Museum, Ford's Theater, Petersen House where Lincoln died,  Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum, Bureau of Engraving n Printing, Union Station, American History Museum, Jefferson Memorial,  Holocaust Museum, Arlington National Cemetery and The White House.
I have a pic of  Katherine (she is the daughter of the Commodore at the Capital Yacht Club). She is a very very intelligent young lady; and the plus is she is a dog-sitter!
While staying here, helicopters were constantly going overhead doing practice maneuvers, and transporting people from one federal building to another. There were two times that we saw 3 at a time; (I'm told this was when the president was aboard one).
Sonny surprised me with a date day. We went to The Kennedy Center and saw Bridges of Madison County. Loved loved the book, movie and now the play. It was awesome! Afterwards we walked to The White House, then to Old Ebbitt's Grill for dinner, then to The Jefferson Monument.
We ate at several good places while here;  but Clyde's, The Coupe, and Ebbitt's were our faves!

Marena loves to get out and run; but it has been so hot n humid that she really doesn't care about it as much.
Walking to Safeway Market, CVS and Starbucks has been very convenient and I will definitely miss that.
Sonny flew home for a day while here for a doc appt (all is good); he always stays with Jack n Sara. Don't know what we would do w/o them!!! They take such good care of us.....................

Got to Corinthian Yacht Club where we will be till  8/9/16.
It is so quiet here, we are in a very remote area (the reason my postings are behind)!!!
I know that I need to get caught up on this blog, and I will, but right now it just isn't so important.
This place is so nice, we have a pool, have met new friends and really get a chance to relax. There is a clubhouse with cottages surrounding the property. Everyone is so nice. On Friday we left the club and traveled about 20 miles to anchor out at St. Mary's College. We dinghyed to shore, took our lawn chairs where we sat on the lawn and listened to The Chesapeake Orchestra perform. We really enjoyed listening to the music. This past Saturday night they had a Key West party at the club and we had a great time. There is a marina next door and a couple of restaurants close by. It's too far to walk but we take our dinghy. This area would be good for bike riding (something we haven't done enough of), but it is so bloody hot! Today should be 100; yikes! We met 3 couples visiting here from Baltimore Yacht Club, such fun people...
We also met Jeff and Leigh on their sailboat "Last Tango". They stay here a good bit and are members of the club. We have really enjoyed meeting them.

Molly's Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!!! Happy Birthday Molly....."17"!

Today we are going to Leonardtown where we will anchor for two nights.
On our way we will go through a naval restricted area; The Dahlgren firing range. We were hailed by the Coast Guard and told where to navigate to stay out of the firing range. Hope their aim is good today! LOL
Also we passed an area called "Mallows Bay". It is very interesting. Almost 100 years ago, "the ghost fleet" began. During WW1, President W. Wilson commissioned 1000 steam ships to be built. By the end of the war only 300 had been built and another 200 half finished. These ships proved to be obsolete and were sold for scrap. They were towed to Mallows Bay to be dismantled; and were eventually set ablaze. The remains of approximately 80 ships are on the bottom of the bay. Some are in such shallow water that it has provided a nature habitat. It was a quaint little town with a few shops, gelato parlor, and several restaurants.
Our first trip "up the hill" was to see the town and find where we would like to have dinner. Our second trip "up the hill" was to have dinner! And gelato..................good stuff!

After 3 weeks in DC, we are finally leaving and heading back down The Potomac River.We stopped again @ Belmont Bay Marina to re-fuel; then anchored @ Matowoman Creek.

Bug mess

Sonny had washed the boat just a couple days ago, so it was very clean; BEFORE we went to bed! When we got up the next morning it was a totally different scene. There were thousands of bugs and their residue (whatever that was)! Everything was green spots...............and bugs (they were shaped a lot like mosquitos). What a mess; took us days to get it cleaned again! We've had lots of bugs, but nothing like this. Sure hope we don't have them again either!

I know all of you who follow us (and my critics too);  wonder why there is such a big gap on my postings. There are reasons. This time it is because we are in the boonies..........
ATT service here is horrible. One bar most of the time.
Internet service is pitiful.
When we get to a better area, I will get everything up to date.
