12/12/16

This morning we get up early again to unload all these bags, pick up a car from Enterprise, watch the boat being pulled out, answering lots of questions, and giving instructions.
It sure is a lot of work....................but can't wait to see all our family!
This is her spot...................

12/7/16 thru 12/11/16

Leaving Charleston on a cold, damp, foggy morning. We are trying to get to Jacksonville asap..............Today's mileage is an 85 mile trip to Skull Creek (Hilton Head), where we will anchor for the night.
The next day we get an early start, heading for Cedar Creek (Savannah, Ga), to anchor for the night. We traveled 65 miles on a cold, windy day; and stopped @ Thunderbolt Marina to re-fuel.
On the next morning, we get another early start for a 67 mile trip to Umbrella Creek (Jekyll Island), to anchor again. The weather was still cool, but the sun warmed us up fast............
The next day was cold and windy with a lot of shallow spots. It was a 54 mile day, to Jacksonville free dock.
The last day we traveled 25 miles to Sadler Point Marina on the Ortega River (another location in Jacksonville) where we will get the boat pulled out for repairs and we will go to Panama City, Nashville and Kentucky for Christmas.

12/1 16 thru 12/6/16

We have a 58 mile trip to our anchorage tonight @ Five Fathom Creek in McClellanville, SC; where the eye of Hurricane Matthew hit land. It took us a couple of times to get anchored in this narrow water. The wind was blowing one direction while the current pushed us another, then factor in a few crab pots.........well it was a little difficult.
The next morning we are headed to Charleston City Marina for a few days. I haven't been to Charleston since the early '80's, so I'm really anxious to see it.
We are not in a slip here, but tied along their Mega Dock. And mega it is....1530' long.We were about halfway down, so we got a lot of steps in. They have a courtesy van that takes us downtown or to a shopping area. While downtown we took a carriage ride through the historical area; lots of history here. Also; walked through their city market, tons of vendors. We ate at 2 great restaurants, Hank's and 82 Queen (best she-crab soup ever). Loved this stop....................

11/29 and 11/30

Leaving Southport Marina was a little tricky with 20 mph winds, but Sonny managed to do it. It's a 64 mile trip to Osprey Marina where we will stay for 2 days. There are chores to be done................It's a remote place in Myrtle Beach, SC, but seclusion and quiet are a good thing at times. One reason we like it so much is because we can let Marena run without her leash. She loves running free.............and that isn't possible at many of our stops. Also, there is a small zoo at the back of the property. When we walked to see the field of goats, she was intrigued with them! Wouldn't you know; I left my phone on the boat!!! Well spit.................

A pink house, lighthouse, boat; think they like pink???
The weather for these 3 days goes from cool n rainy to cool n sunny and we traveled 156 miles. We are on a mission to get to Jacksonville by 12/13 so that we can do our Christmas traveling on schedule.
I told you it gets cold riding on the bridge.......poor baby

View from Corkscrew; a decorated island!

Amazing how close you get to these ships.
Traveling on these cool days up on the fly bridge can be pretty miserable if there is no sunshine. But with sun, it's like a sauna! Anyhow; the cool weather has felt great to me. The first day we stopped @ Beaufort, NC, great small town. The next night we spent at an anchorage @ Camp LeJeune NC. The third day we spent @ Southport Marina.

11/19/16

Leaving River Dunes in Oriental, NC; we traveled 37 miles up the Neuse River to New Bern, NC. We stayed until 11/25 @ New Bern Grand Marina. Well, this is another wonderful town and so glad we are staying here awhile. This marina is about 2 blocks from their downtown. Lots of great shops (including coffee shops). We ate at a couple of great restaurants, and then we ate Thanksgiving dinner at another that was horrible! The worst Thanksgiving meal any of us had ever had. Oh well.......guess they can't all be the best!

This is where the spring AGLCA rendezvous will be held in April, so glad!
They had their downtown Christmas parade and tree lighting with you know who on the firetruck! An antique one, at that.................only here a week, but I could have stayed longer. Forgot to say this is the city of bears!!!
